Gun safes are divided into two categories; Rifles and Handguns (Pistols). Rifle safes are usually large tall safes that stand upright on the floor and are anchored down. It is very important to bolt a tall safe to the floor to avoid the safe from tipping over when the door is opened. These safes are top heavy. Handgun safes are smaller lockable boxes that are meant to be mounted to a desk, to the floor, to a car seat or a bed leg with a steel cable. Pistol safes vary by size and locking mechanism. The most popular are biometrics lock (fingerprint) and electronic digital keypad lock. Most are made for a single handgun and some are made for two.
